Let's Launch Some Rockets!

Paul Joyce | Published on 2/9/2021
Hello Everyone,

I'm excited to announce that we're going to finally launch some rockets!

That being said, the way we do this, is going to change.  The COVID pandemic has changed the way we work, interact and play.  It's important that we respect and follow the Federal, State, County and any other guidelines and/or mandates that exist to keep us safe.

A few things to note:
1) Launches will be limited to a TOTAL of 50 people.
2) Facial Masks will be required at all times.
3) Physical (social) distancing of 6 feet or more will be required at all times.
4) We will try extra hard to keep our high risk flyers safe.  First, we'll encourage them to read the high risk data provided at https://coronavirus.utah.gov/protecting-high-risk-individuals/.  We'll encourage to weigh benefits.  Second, we will not allow these individuals to participate in roles like LCO/RSO due to the handoff contact nature of these roles.

Anyone not honoring these rules will not be allowed to launch and asked to leave.

Anyone flying a rocket must be a active member of UROC.  In addition, if they are flying a motor that requires certification, must be able to show their current Tripoli or Nar membership card showing certification level.   All individuals attending the launch MUST register prior to the launch.  Members will be able to bring 1 non-member to the launch if needed.  We encourage though to leave those slots open for members that are launching if at all possible.

With that all being said, I'm really excited to announce we're going to get some rockets in the air.  We have 3 dates in March that we are ready to go.  March 13th, 20th, and 27th, 2021.  Our first launch of the year will be March 13th weather and fire hazard permitting.  Our second launch will be March 27th weather and fire hazard permitting.  We are also prepared to fly March 20th depending if we were able to fly or not on the 13th and what long term forecast is looking like on the 27th.

In addition, we have 2 launches scheduled in April.  April 17th and 24th, 2021.  We will attempt to launch both dates as long as weather and fire danger allow.

As I noted above, these launches will be limited to a maximum of 50 people total in attendance.  We have created a "wait list" via the registration of each launch.  We will give wait listed members, in order, preference for the following launch.  This will help us get as many people launching as possible.

Please check out the Event Calendar for further launch details and registration.

If you have any questions regarding an of this, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  I'm really looking forward to seeing you all and spending some time in the desert.

Cheers,
Paul Joyce
