200px-James_LovellAt 11 AM on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Captain James Lovell, a former NASA astronaut and commander of the Apollo 13 mission will give a forum address to all students, faculty, administrators, and visitors at Brigham Young University in the Marriott Center.

James "Jim" Arthur Lovell, Jr., (born March 25, 1928) is a former NASA astronaut and a retired captain in the United States Navy, most famous as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, which suffered an explosion en route to the Moon but was brought back safely to Earth by the efforts of the crew and mission control. Lovell was also the command module pilot of Apollo 8, the first Apollo mission to enter lunar orbit. Lovell is a recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

meetingminutesThe General meeting of the Utah Rocket Club for February, 2010, took place on Monday, February 8th at the Salt Lake County Complex in room N1100.

Neal Baker (Treasurer) is sending out a notice to club members 30 days in advance of their membership expiration.  There were 13 membership renewals last month.  7 renewals were on-line.

Tim Boschert (Tripoli Prefect) reported on NFPA recommended changes.  The lower limit will be at 62.5gram propellant weight regardless of total impulse.  Tim also reported that we are a duel affiliation club.  We must declare a minimum of 24 hours before the launch whether it will be Tripoli or NAR that will cover the launch.

kellyhallUROC's Vice President Kelly Hall and his son Kage have finally gone over the edge, or at least they will be when the jump into Utah Lake in the middle of February. They will again be participating in the Special Olympic's Polar Plunge.

The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympic's Utah athletes by collecting pledges and donations for being brave enough to jump into the frigid, icy waters of Utah Lake in the middle of winter. The Polar Plunge is a fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Utah.
