meetingminutesThe January Meeting of the Utah Rocket Club took place on January 11th, 2010. It was held at the Salt Lake County Complex in room N1100. The meeting began at approximately 7:00pm by the president Fred Williams.

The TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge) will have 4 high schools from Utah involved. 3 teams will be represented from Logan, and 1 from Ogden. No date has been set yet.

Tripoli Utah Prefect Tim Boschert mentioned that AP is no longer listed on the BATFE's explosive list. This is good news.

LDRS will be held in Southern California at Lake Lucerne June 10th thru June 13th.

Tim also mentioned that NAR and Tripoli have the same insurance provider. A person covered by a NAR permit would be covered by this permit at a Tripoli event, and a Tripoli permit would cover that person at a NAR event.

Tripoli launches require a list of all participants. It has been suggested that we just do a list at all UROC events.

There have been some minor changes to Research Launch rules. Changes can be reviewed on the Tripoli website.

Contest Director Steve Anderson announced the events for the Pioneer contest to be held on May 22nd. These events include:

  • Giant Sport Scale- The rockets have to be at least 1 meter long, or 4 inches in diameter
  • ¼ "A" boost glider
  • "A" cluster altitude with trackers
  • "B" streamer duration
  • ½ "A" parachute duration
  • Random duration (At the meet, Steve will select a time between 30 secs. And 2 mins.)

Steve will need help with the contest. Please contact him for more information.

Bruce Bell indicated that he would not set up his store (Rocket Dog) at the Pioneer Launch. Let Bruce know in April if you need motors or other items for the Pioneer Launch.

The new UROC schedule for this year was passed out and reviewed. This Saturday, January 16th will be the "Frozen Finger Sport Launch" (Misfire Alley). We will not be bringing out the equipment trailer. Please bring out your own launch equipment. Campfires are O.K. as long as the brush is cleared away from the immediate area. Kelly will bring out the fire extinguishers.

Cathy Redd noted that the club meeting for August would be immediately following Hellfire.

March 13th will be Equipment Maintenance Day at 10:00 a.m. Jed Marti has offered to let us use his place. Further information will be forthcoming.

Larry Holmes will find out if Dan Holmes is still plans on being the Education Outreach Chairman. If you are interested in helping out with UROC's outreach programs, please contact Fred Willams (UROC President).

June 19th will be the Clarke Planetarium Demo at Miller Motorsport Park. We will need a Launch and Recovery crew for the demo launch and volunteers for the static display. The demo launch will be at 6:00pm and will be up to a "G" motor. High power models will be needed for the static display.

NARAM 52 will be July 31st thru August 6th in Pueblo, Colorado. UROC has been asked to lend support. They will have a contest range, and a sport range. They will need help with the contests, timing, etc.

Hellfire 15 will be August 6-8th. This year, Hellfire will be a Tripoli event. We will need a Hellfire Chairman and committee. Our BLM permit for Bonneville has been approved. Friday will be a Research launch, and Saturday and Sunday will be for commercial motors.
